We also produce the town website which lists many other places to see https://VisitRyeBay.com
Within a short drive you will find https://www.greatdixter.co.uk/ and the Kent and East Sussex Light Railway https://www.kesr.org.uk/ the steam railway serves both Tenterden to the north and Bodiam castle to the south.
Fancy a vineyard visit – do check with the venue before arriving.
https://www.chapeldown.com/ is next to the Small Hythe National trust home of Ellen Terry https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/smallhythe-place/
About 20 minutes from Saltcote you could also visit https://www.englishorganicwine.co.uk/ they do some amazing “Regent” red wines with a surprising texture wine drinkers are always amazed by.
Camber Sands can be seen from the gardens and would take around 40 minutes to walk to or 10 minutes to drive to.
Rye Harbour Nature Reserve it a flat enjoyable walk with plenty of covered bird watching positions. Mobility vehicles can get around the walk and into the discovery centre which has a café.
The Layla Turkish restaurant in the high street is really good authentic Turkish food and relaxed fun, probably one of the best places to eat in Rye. Remember this is not London so your meal may take longer than 2 minutes to arrive as may your first drink but the atmosphere is as relaxed as eating at your friend’s house. You are there to stay, leave when you are ready.
The food is excellent and has become a popular haunt of the local Hoteliers and restaurant owners who go for the relaxed atmosphere and great food.

VerifiedKevin B23/09/2024Home away from home What a pleasant surprise, we normally don’t stay at B&Bs but our stay at Saltcoate Place has convinced us that high-end hotels do not have a monopoly on luxury accommodation. Paul and Alan have a spacious and spectacularly decorated villa with fantastic grounds and a grand view of the countryside and channel. The two of them are so generous: wine at reception, great explanation of sights to see and places to eat in Rye, a night cap every evening, and Alan’s breakfast is second to none!VerifiedRosie C21/09/2024Fabulous & luxurious - thoroughly recommend Saltcote Place. Fantastic hotel, had the most wonderful stay here, absolutely faultless. From the welcoming glass of wine, the beautiful house & gorgeous grounds, comfortable room & fabulous ensuite bathroom, to the delicious breakfasts & very thoughtful touches of fresh fruit & flowers in the bedroom & nightcaps at night, Paul & Alan have thought about every exquisite detail. Paul is a wonderful host, extremely helpful & knowledgeable and great fun too, (I’m sure Alan is too, but he was having time off during our visit - hope you’re fully rested now Alan, & look forward to seeing more of you next time!). Thank you for all your help, advice & hospitality, Paul, we can’t wait to come back! Rye is a beautiful town to & there are fantastic restaurants & beautiful nearby places to explore & to be able to return to an amazing & luxurious home is one of life’s pleasures. Seriously, what are you waiting for?! Book now, this place is an absolute gem the like of which is as rare as snow on the Sahara!VerifiedWayne D16/09/2024Opulent few days away Wow! We have just spent 3 nights at Saltcote Place. The whole experience was brilliant. From the first we were welcomed warmly with a glass of wine to the luxurious house by Paul. Our suite was perfect, spotlessly clean with lots of special touches - fresh fruit, tea, coffee and delicious biscuits and fresh flowers. Rye is a lovely place to visit and we received lots of recommendations from our hosts for great restaurants. Our breakfast really set us up for the day with delicious food cooked by Alan ‘bubbles’ poured by Paul - a great way to start the day! Paul and Alan are the perfect hosts and so much fun.VerifiedAlan M15/09/2024What an Experience! The phrase B & B just does not begin to do justice to Saltcote Place. It is something else! Everything about it - the setting, the interior decor, the comfort of the rooms - is on a level way above the norm - and Paul and Alan are such gracious and attentive hosts. You may look at the costs and think "Wow, that's expensive for a B & B", but believe me, it's worth it.VerifiedSally Miller10/09/2024The perfect weekend away. An excellent choice for a memorable weekend away with my elderly mother in law. From the moment we arrived every effort was made to ensure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. The hosts clearly enjoy sharing their beautiful home. The accommodation was perfect- two very comfortable large rooms linked by a hallway with two bathrooms. Ideal for the three of us. Delicious breakfast, freshly prepared and served with optional bubbles!VerifiedGolf Girl03/09/2024Treat Yourself! This place is a dream. Close enough to walk into town to enjoy Rye’s fine dining scene, without the hassle of parking. There are so many lovely extras…. Evening drinks, fine linens, parting gift…. But the hospitality of Paul & Alan is the real draw. They make you feel so welcome in their stunning home that enjoying THE BEST breakfast in all of England seems just a bonus.VerifiedKomal C02/09/2024Best place to stay in East Sussex I would like to highly recommend Saltcote Place. My husband and had a fabulous stay. Paul and Alan were great hosts and were very welcoming and incredibly helpful in suggesting places to visit in and around Rye. The attention to detail at breakfast and the little nightcaps were truly amazing. Thanks Paul and Alan. Komal and RajVerifiedNicola S31/08/2024Beautiful location and best breakfast ever. Our best hotel stay ever, amazing hosts - such lovely, genuine and interesting people, attention to detail second to none, beautiful grounds, spotless room, beautiful decor and the best breakfasts we have eaten in any hotel - ever! Brilliant for people with gluten allergies -the only place I have eaten a gluten free full English breakfast which didn't require substitutions or elements removed. High quality ingredients beautifully cooked and presented with great service. Can't recommend this place enough thank you Paul and Alan for a wonderful stay.VerifiedEllis N30/08/2024Four Nights of Delight! Although a little unusual in its style, Paul and Alan made sure that every need was catered for with humour and precision. The breakfasts were a triumph, set amidst the excellent traditional furniture and decorative features. The cleanliness was beyond reproach, with nothing too much trouble. There were even gifts of some garden seedlings to take home. Very well worth the stay.VerifiedMartin34604/03/2023Amazing hosts in an amazing property The short version - Alan and Paul were absolutely fabulous hosts in a truly wonderful house. Make sure you go there! We stayed Friday night to Sunday morning. The weekend away was a gift from our sons and heaven knows how they found it. It was an amazing treat. Our hosts’ attention to detail is second to none. A fantastic breakfast to start your day and then a nightcap waiting for you at the end of the day. Perfect. Ensure Alan gives you a tour of the rest of the house; you will be rewarded by walking through wonderful rooms furnished with love over a lifetime of collecting beautiful things. I could go on… Rye is a lovely quirky place with plenty to do in a weekend so make sure you treat yourself by staying here!Load more
